Root Beer Braised Pulled Pork Sandwich

Made by: Brendan

This recipe combines a game-day winner with your favourite childhood soda (even if you’re a millennial and your childhood was only 10 years ago). This is a tasty way to enjoy root beer like you did as a kid, only now it’s being used to braise delicious pulled pork.

  • 3–4 pounds pork tenderloin

  • 1 bottle or can (355 millilitres) of your favourite root beer

  • Pepper to taste

  • 1 bottle (425 millilitres) of your favourite barbecue sauce

  • Buns (any size or shape you want!)

Directions

  1. Place pork tenderloin in slow cooker.

  2. Pour root beer over the tenderloin.

  3. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper.

  4. Cook on low for 8 hours.

  5. Shred the pork and add barbecue sauce.

  6. Serve on toasted buns, and dress with coleslaw if you’re all fancy.

Beverage pairing

A dry, hoppy beer for contrast.

The sweet spot:

Don’t even think of using diet root beer in this recipe. You need the full sugar to bring out the pork’s natural sweetness.
